Damien Dennis is a journalist from the Detroit-area with predominant experience in sports coverage. His goal in the field is to cover collegiate or NFL football.

Currently, Damien is employed with Paxton Media Group through a pagination hub at The Herald-Palladium in St. Joseph, MI. He serves as a copy editor and designer, working on five newspapers across Indiana and The Herald-Palladium. He has worked for PMG since October 2013.

In January 2015, Damien began writing for The Herald-Palladium occasionally as a sports reporter.

Damien graduated from Oakland University in December 2012 with a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism. After graduation, he accepted a position with the Effingham & Teutopolis News Report as sports editor.

He worked for ETNR from January 2013 through June of the same year. Damien was responsible for covering Effingham, Teutopolis and St. Anthony high schools sports, including features, game coverage and any news surrounding the athletic departments. Additionally, he was also tasked with sports photography, scheduling games for other reporters and photographers and design of the print section every week.

While in Effingham, Damien covered various high school sports that included the girls’ and boys’ Teutopolis basketball teams reaching state quarterfinals and the Teutopolis baseball team and their run to state finals, where they finished third place.

Between jobs, Damien freelanced for various outlets in the summer and early fall of 2013, including the Dexter Leader, Chelsea Standard and Traverse City Record-Eagle.

In March 2013, Damien began a blog called The Pit: Sports and Entertainment. The site has gone from a blog format to a full-blown media entity, consisting of a team of 30 writers and photographers that cover various sports teams, concerts and entertainment news from around the Great Lakes region.

The Pit covers Notre Dame football, Grand Rapids Griffins (AHL affiliates of the Detroit Red Wings), Chicago Wolves (St. Louis Blues’ AHL affiliates), West Michigan Whitecaps (Single-A affiliates of the Detroit Tigers) and the Columbus Crew of the MLS regularly. The website has also had the opportunity to cover Real Madrid, Manchester United, Liverpool and various NFL teams.

Damien attended Oakland University from 2009 to 2012. During his time in college, he served as sports editor of the college newspaper (The Oakland Post), a sports host for the college radio station (WXOU) and served as the first vice-president for the Society of Professional Journalist at Oakland University.

In college, Damien interned with The Oakland Press  (May to September 2012) as a features intern and Ann Arbor Radio (Cumulus Media) as a studio intern for Sports Talk 1050 AM WTKA (January 2012 to May 2012). Damien was hired by Ann Arbor Radio in August 2012 as a promotions assistant and radio board operator. He worked with them through November of the same year.
